Ericsson T10/18 & Variants

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no damage is caused to any of the parts. Rough handling may result in severe damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed, electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.

Step 1. It's been a while since I took one of these apart, so you'll have to bear with me. First of all, remove the battery from the back of the phone, and remove the aerial by unscrewing it, turning in an anti-clockwise direction.

Step 2. Unscrew the retaining screw at the base of the phone and keep it in a safe place. These screws are usually standard Torx T6, but I have on occasion seen crosshead screws used.

.

Step 3. With the retaining screw removed, the back of the phone can be removed by raising it towards the base of the phone and sliding forward. Do not attempt to lift the back directly off as the retaining latches at the top of the phone are easily broken, instead, once the back is loose, ensure that you slide the back off in a bottom to top motion.

Step 4. Now that the back is out of the way, you can remove the retaining screw holding the main circuit board in place.

Step 5. You should now be able to raise the main circuit board away from the front of the phone. Quite often there is a washer-type assembly under the screw you have just removed in step 4, if this is the case, remove it and store it safely with the other screws before removing the circuit board.

Step 6. You should now have just the front of the phone to deal with. Unlike some later Ericsson's, the flip can be simply removed by carefully pulling it away on the left side of the keypad, in the direction shown on the picture below.

Step 7. To re-assemble the flip, locate the right side in the niche provided, then carefully push the left side into place. After re-fitting the flip, ensure that it opens and closes as it should.

Step 8. Replace the circuit board within the phone and refit the washer assembly (if present) and retaining screw. To refit the back of the unit, locate the top of the back panel in the retaining lugs, and simply press the two halves together. Do NOT force the back on, if it requires more than nominal pressure, you haven't located the top lugs correctly and stand a good chance of damaging the case if you apply too much pressure.

Step 9. Finally, re-fit the exterior retaining screw taking care not to over-tighten it. Refit the aerial by turning it in a clockwise direction, and refit the battery. Now that the phone is back together, take as much time as necessary to ensure that it functions correctly, and that you have not forgotten something or caused any damage whilst inside the phone.
